Leo / Lynx electrical system
The electrical system on a trailer can be as simple or as complex as you need it. In its basic form the trailer has a wiring harness that run from the tow coupler plug to the lights at the rear end of the trailer. In its most complex form you can have mains, split charge and solar panel charging for a bank of batteries and a selection of 12V and 220V electrical plug points available on the trailer. These power points can be used to power lights, pumps, fridges, freezer, hair dryers and whatever you may need. You may also add a generator to your trailer.
The choice of electrical system on your trailer is yours. It makes sense to have a few 12V Hella plugs fitted to the trailer to enable you to have light available and run a fridge while the trailer is hooked to a vehicle with a running engine. If you need power when the vehicle is not running you will have to consider installation of a battery pack on the trailer and a split-charge systems on your vehicle to charge the battery on the trailer.
If you stop over at one place for more than a day with the vehicle not running, you will have to look at other options to charge the batteries, such as mains charging if available, or using a generator or solar panel.
The electrical system is always customised to the requirements of the trailer owner |
